Applications of Near-Real-Time Data

Event Monitoring:
  • National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC) implements the LISS in automated event location
  • prototype International Data Center (pIDC) receives LISS data for Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty verification
  • Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) uses LISS data for the tsunami warning system

Data Collection Center Usage:

  • Data are reviewed daily, increasing the effectiveness of quality control efforts
  • Data are used to fill in gaps in tape-based data, increasing data completeness

Other Uses and Possibilities:

  • Data are available via the Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory (ASL) automatic Data Request Manager (autoDRM), reducing data latency
  • Users may build custom "virtual'' real-time networks.
  • ASL Data Collection Center will switch from tape-based to LISS-based data production in the near future
