What is the LISS?

The Live Internet Seismic Server (LISS) is an internet-based distribution mechanism allowing near-real-time data flow from seismic stations around the world to an essentially unlimited number of clients. Data are openly available to all. Data requests are not necessary; a client simply connects to a specific internet address to begin receiving data. In the event a station experiences a communications outage, the LISS automatically requests data from the station to back-fill the data set buffered at the LISS located at the Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory (ASL). Broadband data from every continent, acquired at 36 IRIS/USGS Global Seismographic Network (GSN) stations, are available from the LISS.
